Australia’s wage price index increased. Australian Bureau of Statistics said that Australian wage price index rose to a seasonally adjusted 0.5%, from 0.4% in the previous quarter.

The unemployment rate in the U.K. remained constant in the previous month. National Statistics said that U.K. Unemployment Rate remained constant at a seasonally adjusted 4.9%, from 4.9%

The number of mortgage applications in the U.S. tumbled in the previous week, despite lower interest rates. The Mortgage Bankers Association said their mortgage market index, declined by a seasonally adjusted 4.0% at the end of August 12 to 541.5.

Currencies: The dollar recovered slightly against the other major currencies. The EURUSD traded higher between $1.1242 and $1.1316. The GBPUSD traded lower between $1.3085 and $1.2984. The USDJPY traded lower between ¥101.17 and ¥100.05.

Crude oil: On the ICE future Exchange, North Sea Brent crude traded higher between $48.55 and $49.92. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, U.S. light crude oil traded higher between $45.86 and $46.92.

Gold: Gold prices tumbled in North American, holding on to overnight losses. On the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold traded lower in a range between $1356.75 and $1342.35 an ounce.

Indices. At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.90%. At the close in China, the Hang Seng dropped 0.48% change.

Germany and U.K. stocks fell, as losses in the health, chemicals and insurance sector led shares lower. At the close in Frankfurt the DAX tumbled 1.30%. At the close in Paris, the CAC40 dropped 0.96%. At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 dropped 1.56%. Finally, at the close in London the FTSE100 declined 0.50%.

Wall street traded moderately higher on Wednesday with low volume and volatility. At the close, the Dow Jones industrial average added 0.12%. The S&P 500 gained 0.19% and the NASDAQ composite rose 0.03%.
